No. 1 reason I like Moe’s: It is close enough to get a group of friends together and grab a bite of dinner. If you don’t leave stuffed, you are doing it wrong.
Come to find out – Moe’s is a national chain with the most locations in Alabama and Colorado and scatterings throughout the south and including one location in California and one location in Maine. It was started by a trio of ‘Bama boys who opened their first BBQ joint back in 2001.
Here’s the details: Moe’s is set up as a order-at-the-counter joint which I generally prefer when it comes to BBQ restaurants. This makes it harder to adequately judge on “service” when there isn’t a waiter attending your table, but the courtesy of the cashier and attitude from the kitchen staff can often make up the difference.
I ordered the Cuban pork since it was the special for the day and had a side of potato salad and black beans with rice. The plate came with a toasted slice of corn bread and there was plenty of fresh sweet tea to be enjoyed. I had actually eaten at Moe’s not long after I moved to Orono so I didn’t have high expectations for the sides, but the meat is hot, tender, and with good flavor.
Even though it doesn’t feel like a lot of food when you first pick up your plate, by the time you are finished you’ll need one of those gotta-make-more-space stretches!
Take away: Moe’s is a good pick if you are looking for a quick fix for your BBQ craving! Definitely bring a few friends and experiment with trying out new menu items.
